HUGE HUNGER

It is almost March and we have had a forecast of snow tomorrow.  The hens are uptight.  I think they might sense the threat of the cold white stuff falling from the great vast sky.  Tonight after free ranging, they all huddled close together in the coop.  I never close the door without a beak count, as Miley has been known to dawdle and take her time going to bed.

This is happening a lot this winter: near empty food bins.  It seems like I am buying feed twice as much as any other winter.  Yet...we have had little snow fall this season.  It seems to me, however, that the wind has had an extra nip this whole winter.  Brrrrrrrrrrr.

But right now, I can breathe a sigh of relief, as the bins are full and the hens are happy.  That's a good way to start a Monday....don't you think?

Luckily our snow has all gone now. Our hens did not like being stuck in their coop when it snowed here - they could have gone out but it looked too cold and deep for them so they huddled together and clucked about the bad weather :-) Hope it's better soon with you and the hens can find more free range food and save on the pellets. Definitely a good way to start a Monday, it’s always nice to have plenty of feed around for our animals, our horses are getting through the haylage very fast at the moment.

I missed your latest bunny post so I’ve read it now, Zoey is such a nice looking bunny and it’s great that you got her a brand new house and bowl, she’s very lucky.

Our chickens have been eating alot this winter too. We are in Portland, are you in Hood River? You have chilllly weather there, so we hear. Makes for nice fluffy chickens and airedale coats!
