FRUITS OF LABOR

This summer has been hard on the garden.  Actually, two weeks ago there was no summer.  Now, it's hotter than blazes out.  My lettuce crop got in late and was harvested late.  But that didn't squelch my enthusiasm for my first harvest of the season.

This bowl contained a mix of greens, which turned out to be quite beautiful in and of itself.  I love the spicy taste of some of the more tangy greens.  They give bite to the salad and create a tasted sensation that makes it more enjoyable to eat without a lot of dressing.  Which, in my case, is a good thing for my waistline.

This bowl held some of the more simple straight forward greens.  I really enjoy lettuce varieties that do not form a head, but instead have such tender sweet little leaves.  Yummy.

Making the first snip is always a little painful for me.  But once that first clump is in my red bowl, it gets easier to snip as my taste buds tingle with anticipation.

Ah, such a beautiful sight.  I think I might need my larger red colander.  I can smell the greens all fresh and new as I write this.  Some memories are too delicious to forget.

Excuse me while I get my fork!
